Intro

One of the most important things to do as a small business is open up your product or service for online payments. But of course, as a boot-strapping start-up, you don't want to fork out for a fancy ecommerce or online shop right off the starting line, how are you supposed to know it's going to work?

One of the key things we teach at the PopUp Business School is how to get online for free and how to take money online and that's what I want to share with you here.

If you need a website, check out our blog here about how to get one.

So sit back, DON'T relax and let's get some PayPal buttons on your website so people can pay you some money!

Dear Henry,
Thanks for your video above about paypal onto my websites.

Please will you let me know what the Paypal fees would be for having their button on my site and is it the most competitive.

I am nearly at the stage where I am launching my service.

Which types of buttons would you recommend. It is an online zoom service in the first instance with tutorials at later stages.

I do look forward to hearing from Pop Up. Thanks so much.

Kind regards,

Ruth

Hi Ruth! Thanks for the comment.

PayPal are currently the best solution when testing and launching the business. they take a cut of (i think) around 3%, but that's only if you make money.

There are other, better solutions such as Stripe or Square but they are higher costs per transaction OR a monthly charge.

My advice would be to start with PayPal, get the regular sales coming in, THEN when you know it works and consistent, upgrade to a different service. The point you'll want to do this is when the monthly cost (£30) + transaction fee works out CHEAPER than the 3% PayPal charge.

I would explore Subscriptions first for your business. But that's without really knowing what you do. Feel free to drop me an email at henry@popupbusinessschool.co.uk.
